For Chicago football fans, few players compare in greatness to Walter Payton. And there are fewer teams that even come close in their hearts and minds to the 1985 Chicago Bears … being Super Bowl champions. We offer collectors the opportunity to secure a game used home jersey from one of the NFL’s all-time greats dating to one of the greatest periods in Monsters of the Midway history. This jersey is dark blue with orange stripes on both sleeves, and the number 34 in white and orange on the front, back, and shoulders. The letters “GSH” are found on the left sleeve (in homage to Bears founder George Halas) and features Payton’s name properly placed on the back. In our opinion this item appears to show characteristics of game use. The jersey and the signature have been scrutinized by MEARS, B&E, and noted memorabilia expert Dave Miedema. When the Chicago Bears drafted Sweetness with the 4th overall pick of the 1975 NFL Draft, they were hoping to replace the legendary Gale Sayers and could never have known he’d carve out a legend all on his own. In 13 seasons with the Bears, Payton rewrote the record books, topping off his career with a victory in Super Bowl XX. He retired as the NFL’s all-time leader in rushing yardage and touchdowns, and was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993.
