Presented is a handwritten letter penned by Robert Stroud — considered one of the nation’s most notorious criminals but also one of its leading experts on birds, becoming the author of two well-received books on the subject. The letter is accompanied by a JSA LOA and has a PSA sticker. Stroud was a convicted murderer whose death sentence was commuted by President Woodrow Wilson. He is now perhaps best remembered not for his ornithological prowess gained while imprisoned at the Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary in Kansas (where he killed a prison guard in 1916) but by the nickname for which he is widely known: “The Birdman of Alcatraz.”
