The Commerce Kid himself — Mickey Mantle — wore this lightweight New York Yankees jacket during the 1964 season. The size 42 jacket is made by Wilson, and is tagged is in the collar with a Wilson label, a flagged 42 tag (size), and a large factory tag with assorted information, including a manufacture date of 12/30/63. To ensure that this jacket was indeed worn by the Mick, we have found that the jacket is style-matched to Getty Images #95485895, and the writing on the tags (“MANTLE 7”) is photographed in comparison with the writing from a Mantle game-used helmet. A strip tag is sewn inside the right pocket with the notation "Mickey Mantle - 7” in embroidery consistent with a style Wilson used in the 1960s. (Although some of the embroidery has worn away, there is a sufficient amount remaining to connect it to Mantle.) Wear is also evident in the lining, particularly in the area of the tags, where the lining is slightly worn through. The interlocking NY logo is affixed to the left chest of the jacket in white tackle twill, with the jacket having a seven snap front and a tie at the bottom front. Overall, the jacket exhibits moderate wear. Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from noted memorabilia expert Dave Miedema.
