One of only three known photo-matched John Elway game-used jerseys in existence, this Denver Broncos road jersey was worn by quarterback John Elway in a pair of games in 1988. The white mesh jersey features the number “7” on the chest and back with an “Elway” nameplate across the back. The jersey has been photo-matched to an October 2, 1988 12-0 victory over the San Diego Chargers. Elway slipped into this following week as Denver took on the San Francisco 49ers and managed a 16-13 overtime win. In our opinion this item appears to show characteristics of game use with three nice-sized repairs on the back and shows wear that is consistent with season long use and may have been worn in more than the two games that the jersey is photo matched to.. It is accompanied by a MeiGray Photo Match Letter of Authenticity. Elway recorded an 8–8 record in 1988, but eventually would retire with two Super Bowl rings, Super Bowl XXXIII MVP honors, nine Pro Bowl selections, and induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
