Offered is a New York Jets game worn road used by “Broadway Joe” himself — Joe Namath — during the early 1970s. In our opinion this item appears to show characteristics of game use. Graded MEARS A7. The white road Sand-Knit jersey has a durene body shell and does not have a crotch piece as the jerseys base appears to be trimmed. The jersey may or may not have been issued with a crotch piece. Namath’s uniform number “12” is in single tackle twill on the front, back, and sleeves; “NAMATH” appears in green tackle twill on a nameplate. MEARS has narrowed the vintage to between 1970 and 1973. The Hall of Fame quarterback spent the majority of his 13-year career with the Jets before finally retiring at the end of the 1975 following a single season with the Los Angeles Rams. An NFL icon both during his playing days and in retirement, Namath known for boldly guaranteeing a Jets' victory over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III (1969) — then making good on his prediction with a 16–7 upset win. He retired after playing in 143 career games (including playoff games) with 68 wins, 71 losses and four ties. In his 132 career starts he was 64–64–4, and he was 4–7 coming off the bench in relief. In his career, he threw 173 touchdowns and 220 interceptions, and completed 1,886 passes for 27,663 yards. This is a rare opportunity to own a jersey used by one of football’s all-time greats and one of the most recognizable names in any sport!
